Meet the Speakers

Adrian Vella and Steve Wittlin

Adrian Vella, MD, FRCP(Edin), is a Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and has been on staff at Mayo Clinic Rochester since June 2001.Dr. Vella is a graduate of the University of Malta Medical School (1993). He came to Rochester for his Internal Medicine Residency in 1995 and was subsequently accepted to the Clinician-Investigator track of Endocrine Fellowship training program and completed this in 2001, joining the consulting staff at Mayo Clinic. Currently, he directs a program funded by the National Institutes of Health aimed at understanding the pathogenesis of prediabetes and factors affecting islet function. His clinical interests include the diagnosis and management of hypoglycemic disorders.

Steven Wittlin, MD, received his medical degree from Sackler School of Medicine, Tel Aviv University and completed his residency, including serving as chief resident, at Booth Memorial Medical Center in New York. Dr. Wittlin completed his fellowship at New York University. Dr. Wittlin is a past Chief of Endocrinology and Assistant Chairman of Medicine at Booth Memorial Medical Center for over 25 years. Currently, Dr. Wittlin is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, where he also serves as the Director of Diabetes Services and Clinical Director of the Endocrine-Metabolism Division at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Dr. Wittlin's research interests include diabetes, diabetes technology, and innovative treatments for diabetes. Dr. Wittlin has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and received several teaching awards.
