Meet the Speakers

John Bilezikian and Amal Shibli-Rahhal

John P. Bilezikian, MD, PhD (hon), is a Silberberg Professor of Medicine at the Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons, Columbia University. He serves as Vice Chair, Department of Medicine for International Education and Research; Chief, Emeritus, of the Division of Endocrinology; and Director, Emeritus, of the Mtabolic Bone Diseases Program. He is past Editor-in-Chief of the JCEM and Senior Associate Editor of the JBMR. His books include: The Parathyroids, The Aging Skeleton, Dynamics of Bone and Cartilage Metabolism, Osteoporosis in Men and Principles of Bone Biology. He is Editor-in-Chief of the ASBMR Primer on the Metabolic Bone Diseases and Disorders of Mineral Metabolism. He has served as Co-chair of all International Workshops on Primary Hyperparathyroidism and of Hypoparathyroidism. He is the recipient of the Distinguished Physician and the Laureate Distinguished Educator Awards of the Endocrine Society, and from the ASBMR the Frederic C. Bartter, the Gideon Rodan Mentorship and the William F. Neuman Awards of the ASBMR. He has published over 900 full length articles.

Amal Shibli-Rahhal, MD, received her medical degree from the American University of Beirut and completed her post-graduate training in internal medicine and endocrinology at the University of Iowa. Dr. Shibli-Rahhal is professor and endocrinologist at the University of Iowa, where she also acts as the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Curriculum at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and as the Endocrinology Fellowship Program Director. Previously, Dr. Shibli-Rahhal also acted a the Course Director for the College of Medicine and as Associate Chief of Staff for Education at the Iowa City VA. In addition to her role as Program Director, Dr. Shibli-Rahhal also created and serves as Director of the University of Iowa Metabolic Bone Clinic.
