This episode, released June 18, 2020, will feature Dr. Imali Sirisena, Associate Program Director at Temple University, and Dr. Brad Anawalt, Chief Medical Officer from University of Washington Medical Center and a leading expert in hypogonadism and androgen abuse. This month's discussion will focus on an article from the June 2020 print edition of The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism: “Rate and Extent of Recovery from Reproductive and Cardiac Dysfunction Due to Androgen Abuse in Men.”

Meet the Speakers

Brad Anawalt and Imali Sirisena

Brad Anawalt, MD, is Chief of Medicine at the University of Washington Medical Center and Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine at University of Washington. His principal research areas are male infertility, hormonal contraception, and reproductive physiology; his clinical focus is male reproductive endocrinology. His excellence in teaching has been recognized with several University of Washington Department of Medicine teaching awards: 2014 Marvin Turck Award, 2007 Endocrinology Fellowship Teaching Award, and 1999 Paul Beeson Award. He has been the North American editor for the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology (2012-2021), Associate Editor for Endocrine Reviews (2014-2017), and has served twice on the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism (2006-2010, 2010-2014). He has won outstanding reviewer awards from the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism and the Annals of Internal Medicine. He serves as a consultant to the United States Anti-Doping Agency, and to the NCAA Inclusion and Diversity Panel and NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports. Dr. Anawalt has had leadership positions in the Endocrine Society including Board of Directors member (2014-2017), Chair of the Hormone Health Network (2006-2010, 2010-2014), and Clinical Chair of the 2011 Annual Meeting. He earned a bachelor’s degree in anthropology at the University of Santa Clara and medical degree at the University of California at Davis. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Washington in 1992 and served as chief resident at the Seattle VA Medical Center 1992-1993. He completed a fellowship in endocrinology at the University of Washington and joined the faculty in 1995.

Imali Sirisena, MD, is Assistant Professor of Endocrinology at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia. A native of North Carolina, she completed medical school at New York Medical College and internal medicine residency at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY. She completed endocrinology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania in 2015. Dr. Sirisena currently serves as Associate Program Director for the endocrine fellowship program, and is active in pre-clerkship medical school education.
