Dr. Shafiq is an Associate Professor at the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at University of Rochester, Rochester, NY. She is also the Program Director of the Endocrine Fellowship Training Program and Co-Director of the Pituitary Program at the University of Rochester since 2016. She received her medical education from Khyber Medical College, Pakistan. She completed Internal medicine residency training at University of Buffalo, N.Y., followed by a fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the University of Rochester in 2010.
In 2010, she established steroid sparing protocol in the post-operative trans-sphenoidal patients. The study was published in the Endocrine practice “Morning Serum Cortisol Level after Transsphenoidal Surgery for Pituitary Adenoma Predicts Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal Function despite Intraoperative Dexamethasone Use.” Later, She was involved in a Multicenter retrospective study on “The burden of illness in patients with Cushing disease,” leading to multiple publications.
