ExCEL Eligibility and Application

To be considered for the ExCEL Program, you must be:

  • An Endocrine Society in-training member. Join Now.
  • Currently enrolled in, or accepted to, an accredited US or PR endocrinology fellowship program.
  • Of an ethnic minoritized group underrepresented in medicine and science (African American, Hispanic American, American Indian or Native American, Alaska Native, and Natives of the US Pacific Islands).
  • An early career professional, who is two years or less out of their program, with expressed interest in pursuing careers in clinical practice/ clinical care settings.
  • An early career professional who aspires to leadership positions that make a difference in their profession and communities.
  • Preference is given to U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent residents. Visa holders studying in the U.S. may also apply.

The ExCEL program is partially supported by Lilly, Novo Nordisk, and Medtronic.

The 2025 ExCEL application period is closed.

How to Apply

1) Complete the online ExCEL application between September 3, 2024 and November 18, 2024.

2) Submit a personal statement 500 words or less (1-page)

a. The letter must include the following:

i. Your background, progress toward completion of training, and therapeutic/research area
ii. Future plans, and
iii. Why you want to be part of the ExCEL program.

3) Arrange for your mentor or director supervisor to submit a letter of recommendation

a. Request a letter of recommendation that will be submitted in your application package. The letter of recommendation must include the following:

i. Recommendation for you participate in leadership development training
ii. Willingness to provide support for you to complete any pre- and post-course assignments
iii. Willingness to support your time at the 2½ day leadership workshop, time needed to complete any online mentoring courses, and participation in committee service activities
iv. Statement of your current training level

b. The letter of recommendation must be completed and signed on institutional letterhead.

c. You must provide the e-mail address of your advisor in your application.

You must submit your supporting materials (as a single PDF) at the time of application. Please be sure your name is on all application items.
